Tha Chang Fossil Elephants Museum

The Fossil Elephant Museum or the Ancient Elephant Skeleton Museum displays various skeletal parts of ancient elephants from various sand pits along the edge of the Mun River in the heart of  Tha Chang Subdistrict and Chang Thong Subdistrict, Chaloem Phra Kiat District. The fossils were donated by owners of sand excavation businesses or by temples or other private individuals who possessed the specimens before construction of the museum. The specimens were gathered together by Chaloem Phra Kiat District and donated to Tha Chang municipality to display in a museum. The content of the exhibition consist of an exhibition of the sandpits and fossil elephants from Tha Chang and Chang Thong subdistricts, an exhibition of teeth, jaws, tusks, and various bones of elephants and other animals found together, such as rhinoceroses, turtles, an exhibition of 10 genera of fossil elephants, an exhibition of the tooth of the Khorat ape or Khoratpithecus. In addition, there is an audiovisual presentation on Tha Chang fossil elephants and a central exhibition of fossilized wood from Tha Chang sandpits.
