Khorat UGGp and Department of Mineral Resources Conduct Joint Geological Survey and Geosite Monitoring

Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark, Thailand – In a significant move to strengthen geo-conservation and scientific accuracy, Khorat UGGp, in collaboration with the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), launched an intensive field operation throughout January 2026. The mission focused on monitoring existing Geosites, reviewing the Geosite Inventory, and conducting joint research to further understand the unique geological heritage.

This professional synergy was led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pratueng Jintasakul, Director of Khorat UGGp, and Ms. Krongkaew Jenjitpaiboon, Geologist of Khorat UGGp. Representing the national authority was Dr. Pradit Nulay, Senior Professional Geologist from the Mineral Resources Office Region 2, Department of Mineral Resources, alongside a dedicated team of experts.

The primary objective of this mission is to ensure that every Geosite within the Khorat UGGp territory meets the high standards of Geo-Heritage management. By systematically reviewing the inventory, the team is updating geological data, assessing site vulnerability, and exploring new research potentials that link geological phenomena to local biodiversity and culture.

Khorat Geopark is home to many 'hidden treasures' that go beyond what the eye can see. Our ongoing exploration reveals new scientific insights that strengthen our identity as a world-class geological destination. We are committed to communicating these wonders to the public, fostering a sense of pride and ownership within our community.

This collaborative effort not only prepares the Geopark for its upcoming revalidation but also ensures that the "Stories of the Earth" in Nakhon Ratchasima Province are preserved and shared with the world for generations to come.
