The executive committee of Khorat Geopark and the director of the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment met with the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, Mr. Anuphong Suksomnit, to discuss the advancement of Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark.
On January 23, 2026, the executive committee of Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pratheung Chintasakul, Director of Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natthinee Thongdee, Deputy Director of Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark and Director of the Petrified Wood Research Institute, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, and other members,
in this regard, Mr. Wutthichai Pirunsunthorn, Director of the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, as the secretary of the Khorat Geopark Steering Committee, and his team, met with the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima at the Provincial Hall. To discuss progress in operations and prepare in all aspects for the revalidation to maintain the potential for UNESCO World Geopark status in 2026.Key issues discussed included integrating collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, and the public to demonstrate the strength of area management according to international standards, in terms of geological conservation, promotion of creative tourism, and sustainable community economic development, in line with Nakhon Ratchasima Province's 1+11 policy.The discussion focused on Agenda Items 2 (Tourism), 4 (MICE City), 5 (Education), and 10 (Environment). This initiative aligns with the government's five policy pillars: economy, security, society, natural disasters/environment, and public administration.Furthermore, the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima emphasized full support to make the Korat Geopark a key driver in building reputation and generating income for the province. The Korat Geopark is a source of pride and a crucial agenda item that all sectors must work together to achieve the "success" of area management and create "sustainability" for the people of Nakhon Ratchasima, in line with the province's goals.
