On May 25, 2026, Mr. Wijit Kitwirat, Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Chaired the 2nd/2026 Khorat Global Geopark Steering Committee meeting at the Khorat Geopark office to preparations for the upcoming UNESCO Global Geopark Revalidation.
Certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023, Khorat Geopark covers 5 districts: Sikhio, Sung Noen, Mueang, Kham Thale So, and Chaloem Phra Kiat. Undergoing mandatory revalidation every 4 years, the Geopark is globally renowned for its exceptional fossil biodiversity—specifically mammalian fossils, dinosaurs, and petrified wood—alongside its prominent double Cuesta landscape, one of the longest in the world. The site operates on a sustainable "Bottom-Up" management model, driving local conservation, education, and community-led economic development.
