Khorat Geopark prepares for reassessment! Practice activity for the first reassessment of the Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark.

 
Khorat Geopark participates in preparations! A re-validation exercise for the first time for the Khorat UNESCO Global Geopark took place on June 4, 2026. 🦖🌍
The team participated in a meeting and received feedback from experts in preparation for the UNESCO re-validation at the Centara Korat Hotel. 
 
 
✨ Key Highlights of the Event:
🔹 An impressive opening ceremony: We were honored to have Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adisorn Naunnont, President of Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University, preside over the ceremony. Asst. Prof. Dr. Prateung Chintasakul gave the opening speech, followed by a spectacular opening performance prepared by the Office of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Department of Performing Arts.
🔹 Listening to global feedback: We were honored to have Prof. Xiaochi JIN, Executive Director of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) and Chair of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN), as our assessment guide.
🔹 Special Lecture: On the topics of "Driving Towards the Sustainable Development Goals 2030" and "Goals and Reassessment Processes" by Prof. Xiaochi JIN.
📌 "Korat Global Geopark" is the second Global Geopark in Thailand. It is scheduled to undergo a final evaluation by UNESCO experts from July 20-24, 2026, in order to maintain its standards and retain its status as a Global Geopark.

💰Timber valuation: The system can automatically calculate and estimate the value of your trees, both direct and ecological, so you know how much your trees are worth.
📝Timber declaration and transportation: You can connect to the online public service center "e-Service Nakhon Ratchasima Timber" to declare the legality of timber and report timber transportation yourself online.
🪴Tree maintenance: You can record the history of tree care in your plot, including watering, fertilizing, tilling, and weeding. You can also update the number of trees (added/died) and attach photos of their growth at any time.
Check what to plant in the 32 districts?: There is a menu to search for information on tree species suitable for the soil and climate conditions in each district of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, ensuring your trees grow sustainably.
🤝Share with friends to register: There's a sharing function to invite friends, family, or organizations to join in registering to plant trees and create green spaces in Korat together!

​On May 25, 2026, Mr. Wijit Kitwirat, Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Chaired the 2nd/2026 Khorat Global Geopark Steering Committee meeting at the Khorat Geopark office to preparations for the upcoming UNESCO Global Geopark Revalidation.
​Certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2023, Khorat Geopark covers 5 districts: Sikhio, Sung Noen, Mueang, Kham Thale So, and Chaloem Phra Kiat. Undergoing mandatory revalidation every 4 years, the Geopark is globally renowned for its exceptional fossil biodiversity—specifically mammalian fossils, dinosaurs, and petrified wood—alongside its prominent double Cuesta landscape, one of the longest in the world. The site operates on a sustainable "Bottom-Up" management model, driving local conservation, education, and community-led economic development.

Khorat Geopark team conducted a comprehensive readiness inspection in Sikhio District ahead of the upcoming UNESCO Revalidation Mission.

On May 24–25, 2026, the Khorat Geopark team, alongside the Sikhio District Office, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) Lam Takhong Cholabha Vadhana Power Plant, local administrative organizations, schools, and community networks, conducted a comprehensive readiness inspection in Sikhio District ahead of the upcoming UNESCO Revalidation Mission.
​The site assessment focused on geosite management, the development of comprehensive interpretation systems, and community engagement—specifically highlighting the active participation of local ethnic groups and cultural diversity. By blending geological heritage with rich local traditions and green energy innovations, Sikhio strongly demonstrated the success of the Geopark’s sustainable "Bottom-Up" development model, proving its full readiness to maintain its global status.

This strategic meeting gathered key stakeholders, including the Sung Noen District Office, Sub-district Administrative Organizations, schools, local communities, and the Sung Noen Cultural Council.
