Chaloem Phra Kiat sandpits

This sandpit is 5.44 hectares (34 rai) out of a total area of 38.24 hectares (239 rai) with a depth greater than 15 meters. It is located in Ban Phra Phut, Phra Phut Sub-District, Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The sandpit owner is Mr. Sirachai Prachsriphum, who has taken over the sandpit business from the original owner since the end of year 2017 in order to sell sand for construction materials. In addition to sand, the pit has also yielded fossil wood and fruits, and fossils of the ancient elephants Stegodon, Stegolophodon, and Sinomastodon, rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, the cattle family Bovidae, the deer family Cervidae, turtles, crocodiles, etc.
