Khok Sung Fossil Site

 

This museum exhibits fossils discovered during the digging out of a water reservoir at Khok Sung Subdistrict, Mueang Subdistrict of Nakhon Ratchasima in the year 2005. The fossils were recovered from a depth of approximately 5 meters from the surface. Prominent fossils are Stegodon Hyena and Gavial include turtles, soft-shelled turtles, bovids, deer, and fossilized wood as well as fruits of an ancient Ziziphus species proposed as a new species in the world. These fossils were found in sediments of sand, silt, and gravel deposited on a red silt layer. The age of the fossils is approximate 200,000 years.
